frequently ASKED QUESTIONS

An Employer Reference Number is given to every business registered with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) as an employer. It is a unique number used by the tax office to identify your business and is referred to on tax forms (P45, P60) and pay slips as an Employers PAYE Reference.

The ELTO database gives claimants easy access to their employer’s liability insurance data so in the event of an Employers’ Liability claim the correct insurer can be established.

Insurers need your Employer Reference Number as they are required by law to input this information on the Employers’ Liability Tracing Office (ELTO) database.
