Childminding UK: Election Response
Childminding UK are not aligned to any political party, but like other early years organisations, have been closely following the election campaigns with interest. . In a recent Nursery World Poll, nearly 56% of the early years workforce said Labour were their party of choice, so this news will be welcome for many.
The manifestos published were all underwhelming, offering little insight into plans for children, childminders, and the struggling early years workforce that is on its knees and were disappointing in that respect.
Politicians all say they listen to the sector. As the only national organisation that solely supports childminders, we hope the new Labour government will listen to the views and concerns of our childminding members when they are putting their childcare policy in place.
Our work extends beyond offering training, resources, and support for our childminders. We are passionate about raising the profile of childminding and advocating on their behalf.
We were delighted to meet with Helen Hayes the then Labour Shadow Childrens Minister in 2023 to discuss childminding in general, as well as plans that may help restore the numbers of childminders and hope we can continue to be involved in these vital discussions to secure the future of childminding.
