You cannot work in the childcare sector for very long without becoming aware of Neil Leitch. CEO of the Early Years Alliance and tireless campaigner for the childcare sector, few people have done more to ensure that this industry remains on the political agenda. His achievements over 20 years working in childcare have now been recognised with the award of an OBE in the New Year’s Honours list.
The last couple of decades have seen the childcare sector transformed, becoming a critical part of the UK’s economy and the frequent subject of policymakers’ initiatives. In this landscape, it has been crucial that those working in the sector have a powerful voice to raise their concerns and fight their battles. From funding, to ratios to support during the pandemic, Neil Leitch has always been at the forefront of these efforts, successfully working to change even government policy – any incoming Childcare minister is certain to quickly recognise his name!
In a comment on the Early Years Alliance website, Neil said:
"I am honoured and humbled to have been included on this year's New Year Honours list.
"Having been lucky enough to spend nearly two decades championing the early years, I can say without hesitation that I have never been prouder to be part of this exceptional sector.
"I know first-hand that the dedication, professionalism and commitment of those working in the early years is second to none – and so I am just grateful to have the opportunity to continue doing all I can to ensure that our fantastic workforce gets the recognition that they deserve for the incredible work they do every day."
