The British Nutrition Foundation “Healthy Eating Week” is Coming Next Month

From the 12 June to 16 June, all early years settings and schools in the UK are welcomed to participate in the annual “Healthy Eating Week” by the British Nutrition Foundation.

The cost-of-living crisis has put additional pressures on Britain’s poorer families and children. Families across the country have had to change their dietary habits and cut back on food shopping expenses. Some families have had to eliminate certain food groups all together.

A recent survey by the Early Years Alliance and the London Early Years Foundation, found that 49% of providers said children or families at their settings were showing signs of food insecurity.

Healthy eating is ‘for everyone’ is this year’s theme to provide a direct solution to the current food insecurity environment. The event will provide realistic and adaptable food tips that supports healthier eating habits for everyone.

Claire Theobald, education services manager at the BNF said that 'Eating healthily contributes to our overall health and wellbeing, and it plays an integral part in children’s growth and development. Our Healthy Eating Week resources have been designed for teachers and early years practitioners who are looking to engage their pupils in healthy eating. We hope they will enable schools, teachers, and parents to have a positive impact on children’s diets and health.'

By registering for this year “Healthy Eating Week” you can get access to variety of free resources that include hands-on activities, recipes, and posters for your setting that will support your pupils and their families’ healthy eating habits.
